This position is based in Utrecht, Netherlands or Nairobi, Kenya.
Your role
As Knowledge Manager you work on strategic advisory, knowledge production and research to better understand how catalytic financing can drive more sustainable, inclusive, and commercially viable agricultural markets. In this role, you will sit within the Farmfit Intelligence team, with 80% of your time dedicated to the IDH Farmfit Fund (the Fund), and the remaining time dedicated to general Farmfit Intelligence activities such as research in the smallholder farmer finance space. You advise throughout the entire investment process, in addition to portfolio monitoring of ongoing projects in order to distil key insights and benchmarks of investments made by the Fund. You will also support the strategy and pipeline development of the Fund by conducting market research. Next to that you support the design of Technical Assistance projects by identifying and advising on innovations that can be tested and implemented by investees, within the scope of the Fund’s E&S risk management and impact management frameworks.
At the same time, you will lead the refinement and implementation of the Fund’s learning and innovation. You will lead or contribute to the development of knowledge products ranging from insight and reports and blog entries to webinars and events. These knowledge products relate to smallholder finance and inclusive business models in the context of investment, based on key insights from internal and external evidence. This role will be based in Utrecht, the Netherlands or Nairobi, Kenya. You will report directly to the Senior Innovation Manager of Farmfit Intelligence and will have a strong indirect reporting line to the Chief Operating Officer of IDH Investment Management.
Who you are
You have clear views on how the financial sector could contribute to more sustainable supply chains. You have a keen interest to contribute to a better understanding of how investment models can lead to improved business performance, reduced risk, and access to finance for smallholder farmers. You are highly analytical yet a practical thinker. You are able to digest large of amounts of information and data in a short time to quickly get to the most relevant and strategic insights. You have good advisory skills and you are able to share your expertise and feedback in a compelling and influential manner, both verbally and in writing. You take ownership and work on different projects from beginning to end.
What you bring
- Working and thinking at master’s degrees level or above;
- 5+ years of relevant working experience ideally in the financial sector, impact investing or strategy consulting;
- Proven experience in the design and execution of research on the intersection of investment/financial and the agricultural sector;
- Excellent PowerPoint and writing skills, first-hand experience with storyline development of research publications is desirable;
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English; second language like French or Spanish is a plus
- Willingness to travel around 4-6 times per year to countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
