Program Director IDH Intelligence Center

Do you have strong expertise, passion and network in market transformation by amongst others leveraging data and data-driven insights, specifically in the smallholder agriculture sector? We offer a chance to apply your analytical, managerial, and strategic skills to drive IDH’s work to develop actionable and evidence-based insights and to increase the scale of the Farmfit Intelligence Center. We are looking for a Program Director IDH Intelligence Center, a role which combines deep strategic thinking with senior managerial responsibilities in a growing, diverse and dynamic environment.

Your role

The Farmfit Intelligence Center (IC) connects companies, investors and support organizations to the data and insights they need to make smarter investment decisions on where and how to invest and innovate in smallholder inclusive business models. The Farmfit IC drives the learning agenda for how smallholder inclusive business models can become commercially viable at scale and be effective in improving farmer income, increase access to finance and work on climate change adaptation. The FF IC has a unique and exciting position, collecting a wealth of standardized and interoperable quantitative and qualitative data (100+ business models) coming from IDH business advisory and technical assistance services, analyses this data and reverts its back in the form of strategic insights and actionable knowledge products.

You will be responsible for managing and expanding the Intelligence Center beyond the Farmfit Program and make it an IDH wide Intelligence Center in the future.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Thought leadership & actionable insights

  • Drive the learning agenda on smallholder inclusive business models
  • Drive and be accountable for the knowledge product pipeline and implement and monitor an effective influencing and dissemination strategy
  • Represent IDH at key events and platforms to share our insights and create a larger impact beyond the direct reach of IDH.

Strategy development and fundraising

  • Lead the strategy development for the future of Farmfit IC and for the wider IDH Intelligence Center.
  • Translation of the new strategy into a clear fundraising strategy.

Partnership management

  • Lead the learning partnership with FF business advisory and TA teams, as well as with the other key internal and external partnerships.
  • Manage the relationship with key donors and other external partners that need to be influenced to catalyse more inclusive agricultural markets.

Program management

  • Lead FF IC data strategy and team to ensure that the IC is able to collect and analyse data that is relevant, updated, of high quality and at scale. This involves overseeing everything from the backend data infrastructure to the data analytics team.
  • Lead on program management responsibilities like annual plan, reporting, budgeting, performance reviews, Operational Management Team meetings, team meetings, etc.

Who you are

With your experience and knowledge you like to help transform markets and value chains. You can easily connect with people at different levels – from C-suite to people implementing projects in the field. You have a strong data-driven background and experience on how to bring data-driven evidence to an organization – you combine the ability to generate and understand complex data-driven insights with an ability to clearly articulate those insights to diverse audiences and inspire them (to act, partner, share, etc.). You are analytical and strategic and hands-on in delivering your output. You are flexible and able to work well in a team as independent.

What you bring

  • A relevant Master’s degree.
  • 8 – 10 years working experience in the areas of agricultural supply chain sustainability, working with the private sector in Africa and having a deep understanding on how to drive market transformation from a private sector angle. Strategy consultancy experience is a pre.
  • Strong strategic, managerial, and analytical skills and a proven track record in strategic advisory support.
  • Good understanding of the financial sector, including upcoming new business models like platforms.
  • Good communicator and ability explain complex issues in a fact-based and simple way (using visualization).
  • Strong network in the world of supply chain sustainability, knowledge organizations and technology.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. Additional languages are an advantage but not required.

As an IDH team member you can contribute to positive global change. The position is for 32-40 hours per week, initially for one year, with the intention to extend. We offer a competitive salary along with solid fringe benefits, including a good pension scheme.

The position based in Utrecht, the Netherlands or in Nairobi, Kenya. Candidates should be either based in either of these locations or should have permission to work in the Netherlands or Kenya.
