Senior Manager Apparel – Utrecht, the Netherlands

We are looking for a Senior Program Manager – Apparel that wants to take our work on sustainability in the Textile & Apparel sector to convene and engage with the stakeholders to deliver a scalable solution on transparency, apparel wages, working conditions, renewable energy, and waste management.

 

The role

The IDH Textiles and Manufacturing team reaches a wide range of stakeholders in the Apparel and Textiles sector through its diverse programs. With the intent to deliver system change though change in business practices, sector governance and field (factories) activities IDH partners with the private sectors to address responsible sourcing with our brand and retail partners.

As we enter a new strategy period and set our sights on goals for 2025, we are looking for a Senior Program Manager to help us continue to grow our reach and positively impact and solve critical issues in the Apparel Sector.

The program will focus on two key areas for 2021-2025 and you will work closely with Brands and retailers in two key areas of intervention:

  1. IN Sustainable Textile and Apparel Parks (INSTEP): is a collaborative approach to step up the sustainable production of textiles and apparel via Industrial Parks, reaching multiple factories and shared facilities, with assessments and interventions to reduce environmental impact and improve working conditions.
  2. WARP a Coalition for Collective Action: The initiative will work with key stakeholders on wage improvements, responsible sourcing practices, mapping wages in supply chain in 3-5 countries in the period 2023 -2025. We will achieve this by building international alliances supporting engagement with local stakeholders and creating common ground tools, reporting and system change.

The Senior Program Manager Apparel will report to the Global Director – Textiles & Manufacturing.

The main responsibilities for the Senior Program Manager are:

  • Lead the global cluster on IDH work in Apparel related to Industrial Parks and Living Wage.
  • Responsible for program strategy, annual plan delivery, operational management, fund raising and talent management & development.
  • Lead and manage country program delivery on the key program countries – Vietnam, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Indonesia.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and convening on key actors linked to the IDH Apparel agenda, identify, and analyse market developments, business development-related opportunities, trends within the industry to build program outreach.
  • Identify, scout, track and engage new companies and organizations for potential partnerships.

You are analytically strong, self-directed, able, and willing to work independently. In addition, you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adapt easily to new cultures and are a strong group facilitator. You are an energetic, resourceful, and hands-on character who operates effectively with minimum direction. You are agile when it comes to changing priorities, taking appropriate initiative and able to assume final responsibility for service delivery.

You take pride in your work and are keen to deliver high quality outputs with a strong focus on clear, effective, and efficient processes. You have a head for numbers and can analyse data and use trends to inform future strategic priorities.

 

What you bring

  • 10+ years of relevant, international work experience, with at least 5 years in a people/team management position.
  • You have proven ability in business development and program design experience and excel in selling concepts/solutions.
  • Excellent project and program management skills including budgeting and reporting.
  • Knowledge of textile & apparel value chain (would be a bonus but is not a requirement) industry, and supply chain, including sustainability issues and work happening in the field of sustainability.
  • Have worked with wages, collective bargaining, and worker engagement.
  • Strong network with brands & retailers.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 25% of your time (when feasible).

This position is based at our HQ in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

We will consider candidates that live and work in the EU.

 

We offer you

  • a gross salary range between EUR 4579 – 5723 monthly (based on a 40 hour work week), depending on your experience and competences.
  • a fulltime (40 hours) 1 year contract initially, with the intention to extend (as this is a permanent position).
