Senior Manager Innovative Finance

To strengthen its Innovative Finance team, IDH is recruiting a Senior Manager Innovative Finance.

Position overview

IDH has developed a strong capacity and portfolio in blended finance over the last few years. This includes a $50mln concessional finance facility in the space of small-holder financing with FMO, the Dutch Development Bank (see, incorporated a larger than $100mln fund making sustainable agriculture investments to combat deforestation ( and one-off blended finance deals with some of the largest development and commercial banks in the smallholder finance space. A fund for responsible apparel investments at the mill / factory level is in design phase. Through innovatively using different sources of funding, IDH aims to incentivize both (development) banks and supply chain companies to move beyond their comfort zones and venture into innovative business models serving people, planet and profit.

The Innovative Finance team originates and structures innovative finance projects alongside supply chain companies and financial institutions, as well as monitoring that public good is created. It works closely together with the IDH program managers, as well as with investment officers of (development) banks, and key staff from the supply chain companies.

As Senior Manager of Innovative Finance, you are part of IDH’s thought-leadership and practice in blended finance, both internally and externally. You drive an investment agenda which engages partners and stakeholders towards next-stage investment solutions in market transformation. You support the IDH program teams with strategic knowledge, business-development and fund-raising to drive quality and impact in the programs. The innovative finance team is actively supporting the development and operationalization of a smallholder innovation platform which will be launched next year. The platform is the culmination of IDH’s approaches towards improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and will analyze, drive innovations and investment into models that deliver services to smallholder farmers. IDH is based out of Utrecht, you are part of the Innovative Finance Team (3 fte).

The key function of the of the team and accountability of the senior managers is around deal origination and structuring of innovative finance projects alongside supply chain companies and financial institutions, as well as monitoring that relevant public good is being created.

This role has four key areas:

  1. The implementation of the blended finance strategy.
  2. The origination and structuring of projects.
  3. Accountability for the development of new blended finance products and funds, including fundraising.
  4. External representation of IDH on blended finance, the further development of international relations and partnerships and innovation-focused investors/donors.



  • 8+ years of relevant working experience, in a role as senior in an investment firm, bank or relevant consulting firm;
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in international commodity supply chains, corporate sustainability (environmental and social issues), and the reality of developing & emerging economies;
  • Strong networks in financial institutions and the world of impact investors/donors
  • Working and thinking at M.Sc. level;
  • Fluency in English and a second and third language is a plus.
