The Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) Fund and Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) aim to support projects that have a positive impact on the lives of women and girls.
Achieving gender equality is widely acknowledged as critical to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 15.3 which aims to combat desertification, restore degraded land and soil, including land affected by desertification, drought and floods, and strive to achieve a land degradation-neutral world. Gender inequality is a key driver of poverty, meaning it is not only a human rights issue, it is also a development and business issue. Gender equality and women’s empowerment are essential to building healthy and resilient businesses and can be a catalyzer for improved productivity and growth.
The LDN Fund, managed by Mirova, brings public and private capital together to provide long-term financing to sustainable land-use projects that will reduce, avoid or reverse land degradation through sustainable agriculture, sustainable forestry and other land-use related sectors. Project preparedness can be a major bottleneck for SLM and restoration investment. The LDN Technical Assistance Facility (TAF), managed by IDH, was established to help alleviate this bottleneck, and link projects to the LDN Fund and LDN impacts. The LDN TAF can provide grants and reimbursable grants to (potential) LDN investment projects, to improve technical quality, and strengthen environmental and social impacts, so that the investment project meets the LDN Fund investment criteria. More information on the LDN TAF can be found here.
