China is one of the world’s largest producers, consumers and importers of cotton. About 24 million farmers in the country depend on cotton cultivation and as such, it remains a key player within efforts to drive sustainable transformation of the cotton sector at a global level.
As a strategic partner for the Better Cotton Growth and Innovation Fund, IDH supports sustainable cotton production in China, aligned to the BCI Principles and Criteria. While no IDH funding has been allocated to BCI projects in China, we recognize the strategic importance of the country in contributing to the sustainable development of the sector.
