Collaboration expands IDH’s role in the Brazilian semiarid region

IDH is working to develop the scope of implementation of a climate resilience and adaptation program through the Produce, Preserve and Include territorial approach. The initiative is a direct collaboration of IDH’s Brazil and India teams, and is expected to include this municipalities in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, and Pernambuco.

The program seeks to promote agricultural ecosystems that conserve and restore natural resources and increase the resilience of communities. The interventions aim to improve farmers’ income while enabling companies to obtain cotton and other crops from environmentally and socially responsible areas. To this end, the program will include actions focused on relevant issues such as gender violence, nutrition and social inclusion.

The purpose of this first study is to identify priority actions in each of the PPI pillars, for each territory, including the mapping of public and private partners and investors. To carry out this work, IDH relies on the partnership of WRI, Natcap, with the contribution of Professor Eduardo Assad, a Brazilian scientist, and researcher specializing in the area of climate change and its impacts on agriculture.
