Conversations and opportunities on securing living wages and income

To eradicate poverty, support economic growth and reduce inequalities, we must align and act now to secure living wages and living income for workers and farmers in global value chains. This is why IDH developed a 5-step Roadmap on Living Wages.

This is also why we value the joint declaration from the governments of the Netherlands and Germany regarding living wage and income. It is a great step in the right direction, and we look forward to support moving the declaration into progress on the ground for workers and farmers.

In a letter to the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands Sigrid Kaag , IDH – together with Fair Wear Foundation, Fairtrade Nederland, FNV, CNV, Solidaridad, Rainforest Alliance, FairFood, and Save the Children –  welcomes the leadership shown by Minister Kaag and Minister Müller and encourage some further actions.

IDH believes that by aligning on policies, using tools, identifying opportunities for solutions, and acting together now, we can move living wages from niche to the norm, and achieve results, improve gender equity and decent work. Through our Roadmap on Living Wages, we work with many stakeholders to bring commitments into action.

Conversations on Living Wage and Living Income

To keep learning and work to close the living wage and income gaps requires regular and open conversations between buyers, suppliers, sellers, policy makers, investors, unions, governments and civil society.

IDH, with partners, will host a series of conversations that will bring together thought leaders, experts, companies in the supply chain that are working or want to work on living wages and income, and those who are curious to learn more, to share their challenges, experiences and best practice.
