Empowering workplaces for women workers

Earlier this month, we launched the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) at the Generation Equality Forum. With this Fund we aim to create a safe and empowering workplace for women workers.

More than half of the women are employed in agriculture globally. Through production of food crops and sales of cash crops, through employment as workers on commercial farms, and also as traders and processors. However, often women have fewer opportunities for progression.

Through the Women Safety Accelerator Fund, investing companies are addressing gender-based violence in agricultural value chains.

The goal is to accelerate the scale of the UN Women Global Women’s Safety Framework in Rural Spaces and ensure that ‘all women and girls are socially, economically, and politically empowered in rural spaces that are free from sexual harassment and other forms of violence’.

Tesco, Unilever and IDH announced the Fund at the Generation Equality Forum, the biggest forum for women and girls in recent history, organized by UN Women. The organizations together are investing €2 million in the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund.

We have initiated the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund to enable safe and empowering workplaces for women workers.

We are actively looking for partners in the Indian tea sector and other tea origins to support the Fund.
