Trade associations promote awareness about due diligence legislation among their supporters
On 2 December, the Secretariat of the IRBC agreement for the Floriculture Sector (IDH), the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ‘Glastuinbouw Nederland’, Royal FloraHolland, Tuinbranche Nederland and the Association of Dutch Wholesalers in Floristry Products organised a joint due diligence webinar for their constituencies. During the webinar, speakers from the government, the floriculture sector and a guest speaker from the kitchen countertop sector talked about the expected European due diligence legislation and how the sector can prepare for this. The session was attended by a group of about 80 growers, traders and other sector stakeholders from the floriculture sector. As a result of the session, the organising parties have drawn up and shared a Dutch-language document containing what the EU due diligence legislation will entail and how the sector can prepare for it.
The IRBC agreement is a partnership between the private sector, NGOs, a trade union and the Dutch government. The parties are working together to address human rights risks and environmental risks to achieve a more sustainable floriculture chain. One of the main objectives of the agreement is to set up a “due diligence” process (due diligence/ chain responsibility) in accordance with guidelines from the OECD and the UN. In this way, the sector is preparing for upcoming EU legislation for due diligence, which is likely to rely on these guidelines.

Brancheorganisaties bevorderen bewustwording over due diligence wetgeving bij hun achterban
Op 2 december organiseerden het Secretariaat van het IMVO Convenant Sierteeltsector, het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, Glastuinbouw Nederland, Royal FloraHolland, Tuinbranche Nederland en de Vereniging van Groothandelaren in Bloemisterijproducten een gezamenlijk due diligence webinar voor hun achterbannen. Tijdens het webinar hebben sprekers vanuit de overheid, de sierteeltsector en een gastspreker uit de de keukenbladen sector sector gesproken over de verwachte Europese IMVO wetgeving en hoe de sector zich hierop kan voorbereiden. De sessie werd bijgewoond door een groep van ongeveer 80 telers, handelaren en andere sector stakeholders uit de sierteelt sector. De organiserende partijen hebben naar aanleiding van de sessie een Nederlandstalig document opgesteld en gedeeld met daarin wat de EU IMVO wetgeving in gaat houden en hoe de sector zich daarop voor kan bereiden.
Het IMVO-convenant sierteeltsector is een samenwerkingsverband tussen de private sector, NGO’s, een vakbond en de Nederlandse overheid. De partijen werken samen om mensenrechtenrisico’s en milieurisico’s aan te pakken om tot een duurzamere sierteelt keten te komen. Een van de voornaamste doelstellingen van het convenant is om volgens richtlijnen van de OESO en de VN een “due diligence” proces (gepaste zorgvuldigheid/ keten verantwoordelijkheid) op te zetten. Op deze manier bereid de sector zich voor op aankomende EU-wetgeving voor due diligence, die zich waarschijnlijk op deze richtlijnen zal baseren.
