Cassava, an edible root, is also known as the ‘insurance crop’ because it thrives in infertile soil and feeds millions of households all over Africa. But it also has major industrial potential as it can be processed into syrup, flour, starch and many other products.

This month, we hear from Cyril Ugwu, IDH’s regional coordinator for West Africa, on how developing the processed cassava sector can help not only with securing food supply but especially with uplifting livelihoods of millions of people.
